Swinburne University at MLH

Martin Luther Homes is collaborating with a research team from the Swinburne University of Technology. This very international team consists of Sonja Pedell from Germany, Lan (Mia) An from China, and Diego Muñoz from Chile. They are trying to find out how technology can enrich the everyday life of elderly people.

The team has started visiting our residents in the aged care facility and will continue to be on site regularly. During their visits, Sonja, Mia and Diego have joined our ‘Learn about Technology’ activity and spoken with our residents on a 1:1 basis. They had a great discussion with our residents about technology as well as hands-on training of devices such as tablets.

For the team, it is all about the positive experience with ‘modern’ technology and about learning specific things that elderly people are interested in. They also want to find out why some people are hesitant to use or learn about technologies even though they are curious about it. What do the people need to building confidence in technology?

Our residents are looking forward to working together with Sonja and her team. Rest assured, we will keep you up to date about this very exciting project.
