Important Aged Care Forum held at Martin Luther Homes
In its role as national peak body, Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) runs a large number of industry training and information events around the country.
On June 22, Martin Luther Homes in Boronia was host to the Regional Industry Forum – South East, an intensive information session on changes and reforms, which was attended by a dozen representatives of the aged care sector.
The past twelve months have seen a raft of changes; however, “the key focus is to achieve an aged care system underpinned by the principles of ageing in place, consumer-directed care and market-based competition”, says LASA State Manager Veronica Jamison, who is responsible for Victoria and Tasmania.
Jamison confirmed that one strategy for achieving this new system is the ‘single aged care quality framework’, which was at the heart of the forum held at Martin Luther Homes.
The single aged care quality framework, or SACQF, is based on three pillars, which consist of “single set of aged care standards operating across all aged care services; a streamlined approach to assessing provider performance against the quality standards, and improved information on quality to assist consumers to make the choices that are right for them”, says Jamison.
Attendee June Hodge, Clinical Manager at Martin Luther Homes, says that she really appreciates the insights and updates in her industry, which are important to get, in order to stay up to date. “But forums like this are also great networking events for people in the aged care industry and I get to meet people in similar roles, who share their views and experiences with me”, says the MLH Clinical Manager.
Eva Simo, CEO of Tabulam & Templer Homes, agrees and stresses that the aged care sector is an ever-changing industry and that it is vital to stay in touch with other industry representatives to network and stay informed.
Veronica Jamison, who was the MC of the industry forum, says that “the event helped to equip the participants with essential tools to lead their organisations into the future of aged care, while also giving them answers for many questions residents and staff might have”.
