An Open letter to all our staff
To my Companion Residents – For our nurses, carers, lifestyle team, cleaners and volunteers!
“I do a lot of ‘contemplating’ while hanging around and letting my braincells roam. I was, nearly always, aware of how good our Martin Luther Homes is. Not perfect, but there would be no “dot on the I” if it were. What makes it so, the buildings, the gardens? Yes, but there is also another reason. It is our staff, especially since Covid-19 struck, and I have spoken with quite a few of them. It astounded me what I heard. We whinge because we are not allowed to march through the building! These “girls” and “boys” have had it twice as bad. They are supposed to work, especially now, hard all day, evening or night, then go home, shower, change clothes and stay there. No shopping, no cuppa just down the street. No meeting with friends, and some of them haven’t seen their own kids since May this year. Who is really locked down? Ladies and Gentlemen, girls and boys, I wish there were bigger words to say what we feel: But from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for all you do! Thank you for your patience, thank you for your “Hi – How are you?”, above all, thank you for your smiles, and one thing more: Thank you for being REAL PERSONS who look after us; REAL PEOPLE!” The Ghost Writer (i.e. our beloved resident Wolfgang)
