In this newsletter, we will introduce you to our new Facility Manager, Francesca Cheon, and we have also spoken to our resident Eugen Pichurra, who has only recently turned 99, yet is already planning his 100th birthday bash.

Our popular hairdresser Chris is back at Martin Luther Homes and our residents are spoiled for choice on what haircut and colour to get. And, most importantly, if you want to see your family member or best friend in person again, this is now possible, find out how in this newsletter.

Meet our new Facility Manager
Francesca Cheon has taken on the new role of Facility Manager at Martin Luther Homes in March. In this central position, she is in charge of clinical recruitment, training and education, and she focuses on the implementation of the 8 Aged Care Quality Standards.

Francesca became a nurse after looking after her father who needed care back home, in her native Korea. Since completing two degrees, in nursing and business administration, she has accumulated more than 10 years of experience in aged care and we are very excited to have her join our management team.

Time for a new look
Only a few months ago, nobody would have thought that getting a haircut is that special but, during a Covid-19 pandemic, such a simple service has become a special treat again. With new safety standards in place, our in-house hairdresser Chris is providing her services that are highly valued by female and male residents. Our resident Christa was one of the lucky ones to get one of the first appointments.
Video Chats are here to stay!

Video chats have become a weekly highlight for many of our residents over recent months. So even personal visits are now an option again, we strongly encourage families and friends to stay in touch via the internet.

Life is perfect at 99!
When you wander through the halls of our facility and you can hear the melodies of Beethoven or Mozart coming your way, then chances are that Eugen Pichurra is just around the corner. Eugen is somewhat of an institution at Martin Luther Homes. Not only does his connection with our organisation go back to our founding days, but he also used to live in our retirement village with his wife before joining us as a resident. The only thing older than his relationship with Martin Luther Homes is perhaps his moustache. Did you know that Eugen has had it ever since he turned 20 years of age? Not bad for a man, or an “old knacker”, as he refers to himself, and who has only recently turned 99! Due to Covid-19 restrictions, his birthday celebrations were somewhat small this time around but for next year, for the big one, Eugen has made big plans already. And there will be some Schnapps he has promised, or a “kurzer”, a “shorty”, as he calls it. Other than that, when asking Eugen how life is at 99, all he said was “Life is perfect!”.
