Welcome to the 2020s!
While most of us have celebrated the start of a new year and decade, our resident Emi has celebrated the start of a new Century with a big birthday party. On New Year’s Eve she turned 100, and what a celebration it was. Many of her friends and family attended the morning tea she hosted at the Community Hall.

2020 will also mark the ‘Year of Herbie’! Herbie is a new car that we are proud to present to our residents in our aged care centre, especially to the ones who miss the feeling of sitting behind the steering wheel. Find out more in this newsletter!
Experience Martin Luther Homes in moving pictures. Our wonderful residents, volunteers and staff have their say in our new video. Enjoy!
Innovation on Wheels
You might have seen him already but now he is all yours! Herbie is an innovative electric vehicle that has been developed in cooperation between Martin Luther Homes and Jerome Mobile Engineering. Herbie will give any resident in the aged care facility the opportunity to once again sit behind the wheel. Up to two people can enjoy going for a drive around our spacious grounds while listening to some great tunes coming out of the sensational stereo system.
Gardening in the Village: Our recently founded gardening group, the Green Thumbs, are working hard and digging deep to set up the new gardening beds along the northern fence line. Members will be able to plant their own favourites, or join in in the communal part of the bed. We are excited about the first harvest.
Emilia Sobol, who most of you simply know as ‘Emi’, has celebrated her 100th birthday on New Year’s Eve. The Community Hall was filled with laughter from friends and family who attended her morning tea. From all of us at Martin Luther Homes, we wish Emi a wonderful 100th year of her life!
NYE Celebrations: It was the last of many celebrations in 2019. The residents took charge and organised a wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration. Many people attended, and with Wurst and German potato salad, there was plenty of traditional food on the menu.

Erwin and Edeltraud have moved into one of our modern apartments in the retirement village in late 2019. Both have previously lived in Tasmania for 15 years but have now decided to move back to the mainland to be closer to their family. After leaving her native Southern Germany, Edeltraud worked for Siemens in Australia and Erwin was a carpenter. Did you know that in his younger years back in Austria, Erwin was a successful table tennis player who even played international tournaments?
