Christmas time is here!
We have already launched the Christmas Season in late November with a special Christmas BBQ for our staff, followed by many festive decorations around the facility and by a huge St Nicholas event where some of our residents performed and where a live band played.

In this newsletter, you can also find out how you can order a Christmas meal for your visitors and that our Cafe Jensen will be open longer over summer.
St Nicholas Celebrations
On December 6, Germans celebrate St Nicholas, known to many children as Santa’s little mate who hides chocolate and little gifts in their boots. To share the tradition and joy with everyone, we have organised a big event for all residents at Martin Luther Homes. And a full house it was! Not only did we enjoy a performance by our residents and the choir, but we also had plenty of food on offer.

The absolute highlight was a professional Jazz band and the entertainer Philip Joseph who got staff and residents alike to take over the dance floor.

A big ‘Thank You’ goes out to Godfrey Fernandez who sponsored the entire event! He met many of our residents during our 50th Anniversary Celebrations in October and said that he wanted to do something nice for them. This wonderful event was the result of it and we truly appreciate his support on the day.
AGM 2019: The Board is very happy with the attendance at this year’s Annual General Meeting that was held at the Community Hall on November 16. The association members confirmed three Board members in their role as well as the implementation of the extension stages 2 and 3 that will go to tender in 2020. Another topic was the new Aged Care Standards which gives our Board new responsibilities to promote a culture of safe, inclusive, and quality care services.
Our residents had a wonderful morning when more than 20 children from the Melbourne Rudolf Steiner School performed live for them. There were German folk songs, Irish tunes, classics from Frank Sinatra, and even current charts music from Bruno Mars. However, the German classic ‘Die Gedanken sind frei’ even got some of our residents to rise up and sing along with the 8th Graders. We hope to have the children visit again next year!
Bye Bye Marlene!
We were sad to see Marlene (pic: left - the Gorilla is actually our resident Wolfgang!:) ) from our Activities Team say ‘Auf Wiedersehen’. We always knew that her time with us was limited and that she had to leave us again but before she hopped on an aeroplane to her German hometown of Minden, Marlene’s time here at Martin Luther Homes was celebrated with a ‘Jungle Party’. Marlene promised to come back soon to visit and to lighten up our days with her smile.
